The Failed Coup On The Far-Right

The Failed Coup On The Far-Right

In the recent days we’ve seen an attempted coup to depose popular far-right leader Nick Fuentes and overtake the America First movement. The America First movement, which has gained popularity since the beginning of 2025, has became a deciding point for the GOP and many others in order to gain power and influence over younger men.

On May 8th of this year, influencer and a GOP primary candidate for 6th Congressional District of Florida Dan Blizerian, attempted alongside many others such as Jake Shields, Amy Dangerfield, Casey Putsch, and Aarvoll to “overthrow” Nick Fuentes as the head of the America First movement. They did so in attacks through tweets and videos posted on Twitter accusing Fuentes as a fed and calling for people to “rise up” against him.

Why it started is not exactly clear, but here is some reasons that many speculate:

  • Nick Fuentes recent support for the democratic gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton, and recent calls to vote blue in the mid-terms

  • An organized opposition to split the far-right to prevent Nick Fuentes from slowing down potential presidential candidates such as JD Vance and Marco Rubio

  • Jealously stemming from a vie for power and potentially many being seen as “warlords” seeking money and fame

  • Dividing disagreements on the future of the far-right and the America First movement, especially after Fuentes disavowing Casey Putsch

Now what is it most likely? More likely than not it was a coordinated attempt to overthrow Nick Fuentes and change the direction of America First to potentially be more tamed and open to wider audiences.

The evidence can be seen as The New York Times released their article “Can They Build ‘America First’ Without Nick Fuentes?”, in which Amy Dangerfield believed Fuentes was only a “podcaster” and not meant for actually leading the movement outside of the internet.

Furthermore we can see when far-right influencer and organizer Aarvoll released a video disavowing Fuentes and stated that he was encouraged to do so.

So how did it fail? The America First United event that took place last week was considered largely a disaster due to its too broad of a message of ending foreign influence and unpopularity from many from the far-right. This event would be a foreshadow into the dissenters that attempted to overthrow Fuentes, in which their downfall was their lack of popularity, strategy, and charisma.

Fuentes, and his army of Groypers went viciously against the dissenters and mainly seen as victorious by many watching from the outside and those from the inside.

What does this mean for the future of the America First movement?

This does not slow down, or in anyway cause any negative consequences to the America First movement. In a complete reverse this strengthens the resolve and the rhetoric in which Nick Fuentes now can more effectively control within his regional political base, and could potentially attract in new political leadership which could have been turned off by the the board and vagueness of the dissidents.
